About the Project

The Central War Graves Register (CWGR) Public Portal project presents a modern and user-friendly tool for accessing information on war graves, the persons who are buried or who are commemorated there. The project’s main goal is to make this data clearly accessible to the general public, to support interest in military history, and to engage the public in the care of war graves.

Unregistered portal visitors can:

  • search, view, and sort available data on war graves and the buried and commemorated using maps, databases, and filters

  • share information on war graves and the fallen on social media

  • send their remarks and suggestions regarding the changes in the information about specific war graves and the buried and commemorated to the staff of the municipalities with extended powers (MEP) via a form

  • export basic data for personal use, e.g. when creating maps

  • follow the discussion forum

Persons with serious interest in war graves can register in the project upon request.

The registered Portal users have broader options of active participation:

  • to fully edit the text and image information on war graves and the buried and commemorated directly in the Public Portal environment

    • All changes are subject to the approval procedure taking place among the individual administration levels (MEPs, Regions, Ministry of Defence).

  • participate in the discussion forum – submit their own posts and engage in a discussion with other users.
